One thing is for sure: avid football fans are gearing up for yet another exciting season of the UEFA Champions League – and none more so than the Crvena zvezda (Red Star) fans. How come? Well, the Belgrade-based football club hasn’t reached the group stage since 1992 (that’s full 26 year, folks!), so it’s no wonder it’s all the Crvena zvezda supporters have been talking about for the past day. However, we have a very important Red Star-related announcement ourselves, too just in time for the celebrations! Namely, AskGamblers is delighted to announce it’s going to be one of Red Star Belgrade’s sponsors… starting now!
How about a quick rundown of this club’s history?
Crvena zvezda, commonly known as Red Star Belgrade in English, was founded in 1945. To this day they are the only Serbian club to have won the European Cup and Intercontinental Cup, both in 1991. With 28 national championships and 24 national cups won in both Serbian and ex-Yugoslav competitions, Crvena zvezda remains the most successful football club in Serbia.
Crvena zvezda’s home ground is officially called Rajko Mitic Stadium, named after one of the club’s biggest legends Rajko Mitic. However, the stadium is still commonly referred to as Marakana, especially amongst the fans. This stadium has hosted numerous international matches, most notably the UEFA European Championship finals in 1976.
While we’re still excited about supporting Red Star Belgrade in the days to come, there’s also the matter of finding out just who will Crvena zvezda be facing in the UEFA Champions League group stages. Is it going to be Real Madrid or Juventus? Manchester United or Roma? Liverpool or Monaco? Tune in today to find out… and, if it happens to be one of the clubs you’re supporting, we hope to see you in Belgrade soon, too!
